Probability-based LRFD for Engineering Wood Structures
Summary
The new code for design of load and Resistance Coefficient (LRFD) adopted probability method as the technical basis for selecting design strength, load combination and load coefficient. The special characteristics of wood and wood products as structural materials are considered. The strength of a wood construction product depends on the loading rate and the loading duration. The lrfd standard for limiting states explains this dependence through time-effect factors. The strength of a wood structural system consisting of several nominally identical and reusable components increases significantly, taking into account system factors. Normal Service limit states for deflection and vibration are treated with some general specification guidelines and non-mandatory comments.
